1 The First Part Last Parts 1 & 2 Discussion

2 Do you know anyone in your age group (13-18) with a baby?
What is life like for him/her? If you don’t know anyone, what do you think it would be like?

3 “I already know there’s change
“I already know there’s change. But I figure if the world were really right, humans would live life backward and do the first part last. They’d be all knowing in the beginning and innocent in the end,” (Johnson 4). Why do you think Bobby thinks this? What do you think this would change about the world?

4 “I laughed ‘cause I didn’t consider him much of one, a man, hangin’ on the corner, drinking forties…Two days after I brought Feather home, Just Frank got killed trying to save a girl,” (7). Was Just Frank a good man? Are there times when you should judge a person without truly knowing him/her?

5 “When there’s nothing you can do, do nothing,” (15).
Is this always the case? When have you ever felt that there was nothing you could do?

6 “I can still technically have a kid doctor for myself, even if I’m now technically a parent,” (23).
Does Bobby think he is ready for this? What choices do Bobby have, if any?

7 Why is Feather angry? What does Bobby mean?
“I walk to my room, put Feather in her crib, which pisses her off and makes her scream, and then I look around my room and miss me,” (Johnson 36). Why is Feather angry? What does Bobby mean?

8 “Shit. People in this school talk too much
“Shit! People in this school talk too much. Everybody’s always got so much to say, and never really says anything that’s worth talking about,” (44). What are the consequences of rumors? How does this relate to Burke?

9 “The only way to change something is to pay attention to the signs
“The only way to change something is to pay attention to the signs. But K-Boy says it doesn’t matter what you do, what’s gonna go down is already set. Try to change something—be damned. Don’t try to change it—be damned just as much,” (51). What do you believe? Is your life predetermined or do your choices matter?
