1 Photosynthesis (2) WALT: Describe an experiment that tests the effect of light intensity on photosynthesis

2 Last week, we learnt….. The photosynthesis equation:
That ………….., ……………….., and …………..are needed for photosynthesis That glucose gets stored as ……………… That a mineral required by plants is …………………. Produce their own food through photosynthesis

3 LEAVES AND PHOTOSYNTHESIS

4 Plants need light for photosynthesis
However, that light does not have to be sunlight…..we could demonstrate photosynthesis using a lamp… In pairs, could you spend 2 minutes designing an experiment to test the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis

5 Now turn to page 71 of the red books
This is a very important experiment and always gets asked in Common Entrance We cannot do it in Kenya as we do not grow the type of weed needed However, let’s read through and see the demonstration of how we would set this up. You can have a go at setting up the equipment yourselves even if you cannot do the experiment

6 Questions on the pond weed experiment
What is the input variable? What is the output variable? How do we keep this a fair test? Why is the boiling tube needed? Why would we repeat the experiment? How could we test for oxygen gas? TASK: Set up the apparatus as best as you can. Draw a diagram of it and answer these questions in your books.

7 Now complete Exercise 7. 1 on page 7. 1 in your books
Now complete Exercise 7.1 on page 7.1 in your books. You will need graph paper. You must use full sentences.

8 Plenary Shut your books
Describe in pairs the exact process of setting up this experiment including how to keep it a fair test.
