2 Directions Step One: Read The Article “1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus” Annotate the article as you read.

3 Directions Step Two: Now that you have read the Taylor article, read from “American Pageant” Page 5-11

4 Step Three: Create a graphic organizer that summarizes the differences between the Taylor article, and the reading in Pageant

5 Directions Step Four: Divide into three groups Red White Blue

6 Step Five: (5 minutes) Directions Discuss topics in each group Red:
Discuss the top 3-5 arguments for why the APUSH curriculum should start in 1491 Everyone needs to write them down White: Discuss the top 3-5 arguments for why the APUSH curriculum should start in 1492 Everyone needs to write them down Blue: You will be the judges- write down 3-5 questions you might ask each side Everyone needs to write them down

7 Directions Step Six: Divide into Groups of Three, with one member from each of the following groups Red White Blue

8 Step Seven: Directions Red: will have one minute to argue their side
White: Will have one minute to argue their side Each side will have a 30 second rebuttal Blue: Will have one minute to ask questions of each side

BLUE- will stand and decide which side they think won the “mini” debate Must say why
