Pilgrimage: Journey to a religious place.
Rich people would travel to Jerusalem or Rome.
Most people were poor and went on pilgrimages to local religious shrines, such as Canterbury Cathedral.

Few could read: church sermons and stained glass windows were important.
English drama emerged from people acting out religious stories from the bible.
These “plays” eventually moved from the church to the town square.
