3 Significant Figures Significant Figures - each of the digits of a number that are used to express it to the required degree of accuracy, starting from the first nonzero digit.

4 Significant Figure Rules
1. Non-zero digits are always significant. 2. Any zeros between two significant digits are significant. 3. A final zero or trailing zeros in the decimal portion ONLY are significant.

6 Significant Figure Rules
For any operation…you always follow the amount of significant figures for the value that is the least accurate (less numbers to the right of the decimal point) Ex: 34.5 is less accurate than = 37.3

8 Accuracy and Precision
Definition Accuracy – How close a measured value is to the actual true value Precision – How close the measured values are to each other
