2 Data for policy-making
How will the OSCE VAW survey support that? Based on definitions of the Istanbul convention SDG indicators Use in update/revision of national action plans – integration of conflict perspective Comparisons with EU average and other countries in the region Data and tools can be re-used for future data collection Worldwide lack of comparable data on gender based violence against women Existing survey in 28 EU Member States covering also OSCE participating States OSCE will conduct survey in 7 additional OSCE participating States = 35 OSCE pS covered Police and Admin data is an undercount of true picture Conflict perspective

3 OSCE survey will be conducted in
Moldova, Ukraine, Albania, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The survey will also be conducted in Kosovo1 1. All references to Kosovo, whether to the territory, institutions or population, in this text should be understood in full compliance with United Nations Security Council resolution 1244.

Major source of data: EU Gender Equality index, regional SDG analysis Led to policy changes in EU member States and specific National Action Plans New types: sexual harassment incl stalking and abuse through and social media Underreporting Eurostat survey on gender based violence (GBV) FRA website – data explorer Half of women have experienced sexual harassment; as many as 21% in the last 12 months (cyber – for younger women) •43% of women have experienced psychological violence by a partner •1 in 3 women has experienced sexual or physical violence by an adult before they were 15 •22% of women have experienced physical or sexual violence by a partner •18% of women have experienced some form of stalking – most often by a previous partner (cyber – for younger women)
