“A group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.” Oxford Dictionary Community is... Community Stakeholders are... People with an interest, or ‘stake’, in a community issue because the actions or policies in question may affect their lives 2 2 TY 2011

Learning objective: To be able to identify the needs of different stakeholders within a community To understand the difficulties and challenges faced when allocating public money (i.e. taxes) Starter: Who are the stakeholders in our community?

4 Local Council h/w Carry out research on the internet to find out answers to the following questions. Make sure you write your answers in full sentences. 1) Find out the name of Your local Mayor The name of your local ward. The names of your 3 local councillors and which political party they represent The name of your local MP and which political party they represent. The name of the Mayor of London. 2) In your own words, explain following roles: Local Mayor Mayor of London Local Councillors Members of Parliament Prime Minister

6 Eltham – The future! You are going to redesign the WHOLE of Eltham….you will have a total budget of £3bn You must try to satisfy the whole community, so tough choices will have to be made!

7 In your ‘stakeholder groups’
Create a mind map showing all the different needs of your stakeholder group within the community What services do they need? What spaces do they need? What entertainment do they need? TY 2011

8 Identifying needs Once we understand who the stakeholders are, we can identify the needs of our community e.g. do we need more schools for children or doctors for old people? It is important that everyone’s point of view is considered, if we are to get the types of services and facilities we need. TY 2011

MISSION STATEMENT – Write a mission statement outlining the ethos of your redesigned Eltham. How are you catering for the different groups? How are you encouraging community cohesion in Eltham? BUDGET – Use the option packs to select the most appropriate services for your redesigned Eltham. You must select one service from each category You should be prepared to defend your decision You CANNOT spend more than £3,000,000,000 in total You should make sure that the choices in your Budget should be made in line with your Mission Statement TY 2011
