2 There are four main controls
Focus Shutter speed Aperture Film speed

3 Focus helps direct the viewer’s gaze

4 Shutter speed controls movement
1/15th of a second /500th of a second

5 1/10,000th of a second

6 4 to 8 hours

7 Aperture – controls depth of field
Small aperture (f:22) = large depth of field Large aperture (f2.8) = small depth of field

8 Film speed is measured in ISO
50 ISO film is used in very bright conditions and produces very fine-grain images. 125 ISO film is used in normal conditions and produces fine grain images. 400 ISO film is used when the light levels are low and produces grainier images. 1600 ISO film is used when light levels are very low and produces very grainy images.

9 Film can also be push-processed to deliberately enhance grain for artistic effect.

10 To pass this unit you have to be able to prove that you are in control of the camera.
Automatic settings are not acceptable.

11 Today’s task: Take four sets of images that make creative use of:
Focus Aperture Shutter speed ISO Print them out and put them in your sketchbook with an evaluation of what you did and why, and of how successful you were.
