What matters more: a person’s reputation, or a person’s character? Why?

3 Who is YOUR Neighbor? How would you answer the lawyer’s question? What criteria do you use? “Neighbor” in this world meant “my fellow Jew”

6 Parable of the good Samaritan
Priest: a person whose office it is to perform religious rites, and esp. to make sacrificial offerings. Had to remain clean. Levite: A person from the Tribe of Levi. These people were temple helpers who had to remain clean.

7 Samaritans Lk. 10:33-35 How does the Samaritan respond to the wounded man? Who were the Samaritans?

8 Samaritans Samaritan: they were outcast people because they were of mixed ethnic and religious backgrounds. They were not fully Jew and so many Jews did not like them.

9 Hi, Neighbor! Jesus identifies the one who shows mercy / helps others as a neighbor Expands the concept to include outsiders / enemies Redefines role based on service not receiving help
