What’s an adverb? X A verb good at math? X An action word good at advertising? A word or phrase that is used to modify a verb, adjective or other adverb

In other words… An adverb DESCRIBES or TELLS HOW an action word (verb) is done.

4 For example The rabbit jumped quickly. The rabbit jumped quickly.
First, what is the verb or the action word in this sentence? The rabbit jumped quickly.

5 For example The rabbit jumped quickly. How did the rabbit jump?
That’s your adverb Sometimes adverbs end in “ly” but not always.

6 Another example Albert Einstein was a very smart mathmetician.
What’s the adverb in this sentence? Albert Einstein was a VERY smart mathmetician. Why?

7 …because VERY describes or modifies “smart.” Albert Einstein wasn’t just smart. He was extra special or “very” smart.
