1 Media Use Measurement Over the course of two days (one weekend day and one school day), make a conscience effort to recognize your media use. Use the table on the next slide to keep up with what activities you do and for how long, and the gains and losses of using the media. Bring this information to class on next Friday. You will use the data to create a class chart displaying the overall use, gains, and losses.

2 Question: How Does Media Use Affect Me?
Activity/time spent What did I gain? What did I give up? What’s my evidence? Summary Conclusion: So, overall, using media affects me in these ways…

3 Media Use: a short project
The objective: Analyze the data you and your group collected over the course of two days and translate the information into a visual to share with the class. Include: A graph or graphs that represent your data use, gains, and losses. (15 pts) A summary -- the facts of the findings. (15 pts) A conclusion to your findings. (15 pts) Share your information with the class through an organized and clear presentation. (10 pts)

4 Compile the data: each member of the group should share his or her data. Add together times, compare types of activities, discuss categories of gains and losses. Use an application or website to create your graphs and charts. When you do this, think about the categories AND the numbers. You might need to do some math conversions to create different types of graphs. Write a summary: Your summary should state the facts. Simply explain the types of activities your group participated in, how long you spent doing different activities, and the gains and losses your group experienced. Write a conclusion: Here is where you analyze your data and explain its significance. How does using new media affect your group? Presentation: How will you present your findings? You need to include the graphs, summary, and conclusion. You may do this electronically or create a large poster*. *If doing this on a poster, consider using one of the many apps and websites to create your graphs, then print them and paste them onto your poster. Or, draw them based on the visual created by the application.
