1 Bell Ringer: What is the “Law of Conservation of Mass” and why do we care about it in Life Science?
Carbon Cycle

2 Carbon Carbon is literally EVERYWHERE! All living things contain carbon! You get carbon! You get carbon! Carbon for everybody!

3 Carbon Pools Large stores of carbon are called carbon pools

4 How Much Where? Ocean= 36,000 gigatons
Living + Dead organisms= 2,000 gigatons Atmosphere= 720 gigatons Fossil fuels= 4,000 gigatons Earth’s crust= over 75,000,000 gigatons!

5 Carbon cycle

6 Remember! Photosynthesis is the process through which plants make their own food (sugar) from sunlight Cellular respiration is the process through which food is broken down into water and carbon dioxide to get energy

7 Carbon These sugars used in Photosynthesis and Cellular respiration contain Carbon. Plants are a very important part of the carbon cycle.
