A group of belief systems, norms, and values practiced by a people Recognized in two ways: people call themselves a culture others can label a certain group of people as a culture

Incorporates homogeneous population What does homogeneous mean? Similar or a uniform group of things Typically rural, technologically simple, traditional in nature Sometimes found in less developed countries Isolation

Largest presence in the state of Ohio Also in Indiana and Pennsylvania The Old Order Amish has successfully resisted assimilation into the dominant mainstream culture of North America for over 200 yrs!!! What is assimilation? When a groups culture resembles those of another group
