Develop your own network using a number of different devices.

As a class can you suggest devices which we’re likely to use at home? Think about your router… (Discuss)

You should take notes as they explain some of the hardware required for creating your own network.

5. Router Traffic policeman for data packets.
It makes sure that the information is sent around the network in the best direction.

6. Hub
Central hub for connecting all of the computers, printers and devices together in a network.
Enables communication between devices.
Means that I can talk to another computer connected to the device.
When using a hub, the information is distributed across the whole network and not just to the person you intended it to go to.

7. Switch
Reduces network traffic and increases speed. For example, if someone was sending information and it was busy, it would find an alternative route to send the information.
Switches make sure that only the computer that was intended to see the information sees it. It’s smart because it only sends it to one location.

8. Activity
Task 1: - Plan out your own network diagram using some of the hardware above. You will need to pick which is better. Remember that you may want some information to be private.
Use the website and start designing your own network diagram.
