1 Welcome to Bulgaria Stiliana Manolova

2 History Bulgaria was founded in 681.It is one of the oldest country in Europe. Pliska was the first Bulgarian capital.

3 Capital Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria. Sofia is an ancient city with a rich history. The city was founded by a Thracian tribe years years ago.

4 Capital There are a lot of museum, universities, theaters, monuments, famous buildings and parks. The Alexander Nevski cathedral is the biggest church in Bulgaria.

5 Nature Bulgaria is famous for its beautiful nature. There are a lot of high mountains, vast palms, rivers and lakes.

7 Lakes The Srebarna Nature Reserve is a freshwater lake near Danube. There almost 100 species of birds, many of which are rare or endangered. The 7 Rila Lakes is the biggest and most visited group of lakes in the Rila mountains. Each of the lakes is named according to its shape.

8 Caves There are more than 4000 caves in Bulgaria.
The Devetashka Cave impresses with the enormous size.

9 Mountains The Balkan Mountain is the longest mountain in Bulgaria.
The Rila Mountain is the highest mountain in Bulgaria. Vitosha Mountain is a beautiful national park. It rises above Sofia and it’s one of the symbols of our capital city.

10 Mountain resort Pamporovo, Borovets and Bansko are modern ski resort. They are the sunniest mountain resorts with wonderful snow in winter.

11 Sea resorts You can see large beaches and beautiful Rocky shores along the Black Sea coast. Golden Sands, Albena, Sunny beach are the most famous sea resorts.

12 The Rose Valley The Valley of the roses is one of the most romantic places in Bulgaria. The red rose is the symbol of Bulgaria.

15 Monasteries There are more than 140 monasteries in Bulgaria.
Rila Monastery is the best-known. It was established in 10th century.

16 Traditional food Bulgarian food is delicious. Here are some typical national food.

We have an interesting Bulgarian tradition. Only man take part in the Mummers Games in March. They put scary masks and costumes. They go dancing in streets. Everyone is happy and noisy.

Nestinarstvo is an old Bulgarian ritual. It involves a barefooted dance on embers. It is performed on the Day of Sts. Constantine and Helen and attracts a lot of tourists.

20 The Baptism of the Lord with believers taking a dip in freezing waters to wash their sins away. Epiphany (Yordanovden in Bulgarian) is one of the major Christian holidays in Bulgaria.

21 Tsvetnitsa is one of the biggest holidays in Bulgaria
Tsvetnitsa is one of the biggest holidays in Bulgaria. There are many songs and melodies dedicated to this day which is very popular to preform. This is also considered to be the most beautiful time of the year, the springtime is flowering everywhere in Bulgaria and in old folklore this is also the holiday of the forest, fields and meadows. Therefore, everyone that has a name connected to a tree, flower or plant has name day on this day.
