Label it with 1600s, 1700s, 1800s, 1914, 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s Now, label as many historical events as you can. You don’t need to know the exact year but you should aim for the correct century/decade. 2014

Try answering the question using who, what, when, where, why, how.

4 PPT Background You will be presented with background knowledge on how the puritans developed into a religious group and what caused them to leave Europe for the “new world”. Take careful notes. You will need this later for the final assignment.

5 Pages 6-14 On your bubble chart, write “The Puritans” in the center, leaving room for a definition. Next label each outer bubble with each section below Read the following sections Pg. 4 “Clash of Cultures” Pg. 4 “Puritan Dominance” Pg 11 “The Puritan Legacy” Pg. 12 “Puritan Beliefs: Sinners All?” pg. 12 “Puritan Politics: Government by contract” Pg 14 “The Bible in America” As you read, write two important details about the section on the bubble chart

Writing Prompt: Consider what you’ve learned in your reading about the dominant philosophical and religious beliefs in early America. Explain in a well-developed paragraph where you still find evidence of Puritanism in American Society today. Consider one or more of the following: social rules and behavior, politics and political beliefs, and religion. Use page 15 as a prewriting and drafting space
