What are the needs of organisms?

3. Energy
ENERGY- all organisms need energy to grow. Organism get energy from the foods they eat (animals). Some organisms make their own food (plants).

4. Autotrophs vs. Heterotrophs
AUTOTROPHS -are organisms that make their own food. An example of autotroph is plant.

5. Autotrophs vs. Heterotrophs
HETEROTROPHS - are organisms that cannot make their own food. An example of heterotroph is animals.

6. Needs of an organism:

7. Needs of an organism:
WATER- all organisms need water. Without water, all plants and animals would die.
2. AIR- air is needed by all organisms. Without air, plants and animals would die. Air is a mixture of gases. Oxygen is the most important gas. Carbon dioxide is important, too.

3. TEMPERATURE- organisms need a proper temperature to live. Organisms have a wonderful system that helps control temperature called HOMEOSTASIS. Homeostasis is a mechanism that keeps the inner environment stable no matter the conditions outside. For example, when it’s very hot outside, we humans will drink more water, take off some clothes, and look for a cooler place. We do all this to keep the temperature stable inside our bodies.

4. LIVING SPACE- all organisms need a place to live, or living space. The living space should have food, water, air and shelter (also proper temperature).
