Meklit Sultan 5th period Concepts of Engineering What does each color in the lab represent? Why is safety important? Common problems? Danger and/or stop-> Common equipment or occurrences in a lab -Fire protection equipment -Containers of flammable liquids -Stop bars and switches on machinery -Fire alarm boxes -fire exit signs Common safety problems include: disease, accidents, horseplay, violence, slipping and falling, chemical and gas exposure, and hearing loss. Safety is important because we need to avoid all those issues!! OSHA? The laws consist primarily of federal and state statutes. Federal laws and regulations preempt state ones where they overlap or contradict one another. The main statute protecting the health and safety of workers in the workplace is the Occupational and Safety Health Act (OSHA). Dangerous parts of machines-> Common equipment or occurrences in a lab -Exposed parts of pulleys -Gears -Cutting devices safety starting buttons -Fuse boxes Hazardous materials are anything which has the potential to cause harm to humans, animals, or the environment. Examples are acids or even batteries. You should handle/ dispose them with caution!!! Safety & Location of first aid and safety equipment -first aid dispensers -first aid kits -eye wash station -safety showers My Advice for in the lab Have a good attitude Follow all safety rules Don’t take chances When in doubt.. Ask!? The Big four Rules in any lab 1) STAY ALERT 2)Keep it clean 3) Use safe work procedures 4) Use protective equipment when needed Identifies safety information used on informational Signs and bulletin boards Represents radiation hazards Credits: Conclusion: In conclusion, STAY SAFE .
