3 Existentialism Existentialism is defined as a philosophy that emphasizes individual existence, freedom, and choice. It is the view that humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make rational decisions despite existing in an irrational universe. It also has been noted that Existentialism’s believe that individuals are entirely free and must take personal responsibility for themselves. It is true that humans exist first and then each individual spends a lifetime changing their essence or nature.

4 My thoughts After completing this exercise I agree that I scored higher for Existentialism because I feel strongest about have the freedom of choice and being responsible for those decisions you make. As Sartre put it: “At first {Man} is nothing. Only afterward will he be something and he himself will have made what he will be.” We are the creator of our own downfall and the greatest creator of our existence. I always tell myself that I do not just want to exist in this world, I am of more importance. Whether it is teaching, being a perfect example to my children, or simply a good person walking through life. The decisions Over the span of my lifetime I have made decisions that have put me where I am today. It has modeled and formed my life, but not without trial and tribulation. Is my philosophy of teaching part of the school district standards? There is a fine line between the district guidelines and the Existentialism way of teaching. All student should be given some sort of free rein to make decisions and reap the consequences. However, the district wants teachers to teach a specific curriculum to ensure students learn about other people, other cultures, and other realities. Although teachers are allowed to stray to make sure their curriculum adapts to their students. The result of the existential action happens when students work together to really understand their own way of learning, but through choosing freely, and to act responsibly for their choices.
