“’When I interviewed college students, the ones I worried about were those who had chosen medicine because they thought it was a good profession to ‘make money,’ she says. ‘I think if you choose a career in medicine, you have a passion there to drive you because medical school is not all that fun. It is a lot of hours and you’re working hard. Sometimes people get all the way to medical school and then find out that they do not really want to be there’”(qtd.in Bostwick, Pletcher, and Schumacher 8). Therefore, people who desire a career in pediatrics must want to be a doctor, enjoys working with people, and not just do it for the money; they must also be willing to go through the education. Quote

The sirens wailed while Ashley was rushed to the emergency room after a horrible fall. The physician quickly ordered a MRI and examined her open wounds. The neurosurgeon immediately rushed the patient into surgery to stop her brain aneurism. A neurosurgeon’s job requires him or her to decide the most precise course of treatment in emergency cases, such as Ashley’s. In all, neurological doctors work in the medical field and require much training and time, but they are provided with many rewards and benefits. Anecdote

To become a pediatric nurse, people must have the passion to help very ill children recover from any disease, infection, or injury. Yes, it can be very stressful and tiring, but, “Within a 4-point Likert scale, 88% of respondents noted that their job satisfaction was excellent to good” (Wyatt and Harrison 205). Clearly pediatric nursing is a rewarding career. Overall, a pediatric nurse requires many responsibilities and the drive to become a nurse in order to experiencce the benefits of this career. Statistics

General Background Method
Gives basic background information about your career. Ex. People who become journalists are naturally inquisitive, desire a flexible schedule, and are not afraid to speak their minds (Smith). They spend their time conducting research for, writing, and editing stories to share information with the public (“Journalism”). General Background Method

Definition Gives a definition of what a career entails
Those who enjoy solving problems, conducting research, and bettering our society might enjoy working in forensics. Forensics is, “relating to or dealing with the application of scientific knowledge to legal problems” (“Forensics”). Definition

Background info If you’re not giving a definition of what your career entails, you might want to in your intro.

Use the one you wrote last class– 3 pronged.

Body Paragraphs You must include 3 pieces of outside information including at least 1 quote and 1 paraphrase in each body paragraph.

Body Paragraphs Start with a topic sentences stating the main idea of the paragraph: Meteorologists need a great deal of training.

Sample #1 Sample #2 Sample Body Paragraph

Incorporating Quotes-- CQE
Context– sets up the quote or paraphrase– may be a transition or any necessary background information for understanding the quote. Quote/ Paraphrase with citation Evaluation– should be a sentence or two that you create that explain why this quote proves your thesis.

Example of CQE It is not easy to become a meteorologist. In fact, “Coursework in meteorology includes analysis and prediction of weather systems, atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, physical meteorology, remote sensing of the atmosphere, and instrumentation. Other required courses may include physics, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, physical hydrology and computer science” (“Careers in Meteorology”). These courses can be very challenging for students but can also be very interesting since these students are learning how the Earth works.
