Semester Long Course that is has an SOL thus making this course eligible for a Social Science Verified Credit.
Homework will be fairly infrequent. Most work for this class will be done during regular class time. Most Homework will entail reviewing for tests and Quizzes.
Classroom rules are to be respectful at all times! No food is allowed but drinks with a screw top are ok.
Be prepared for class…have ALL your materials with you. If anyone continually has to run back to their locker for supplies…I will count this as a tardy. Just be respectful.
If you have to go to the restroom just let me know…make sure to have one of our hall-passes with you at all times and hustle back to class asap.
Do not talk over me or another student if they are participating in class. Always be respectful.
We will work to the bell so please do not anticipate the end of class by gathering belongings and supplies…this is a distraction to others.
If you have a cell phone…good have it close by (preferably on your desk) There will be times in which we use your cell phones as a learning tool. DO NOT USE THEM THOUGH UNLESS I TELL YOU TO! Just be respectful of class rules.

8. 1. in early hunter-gatherer societies were shaped by their physical environment. 2. early humans were hunters and gatherers whose survival depended on the availability of wild plants and animals. 3. early human societies, through the development of culture, began the process of overcoming the limits set by the physical environment. 4. Homo sapiens emerged in east Africa between 100,000 and 400,000 years ago.

Paleolithic Period- 2,000,000 BCE-10,000 BCE (Old Stone Age), using the following information as a guide: • Were nomadic, migrating in search of food, water, shelter • Invented the first tools, including simple weapons (to assist with food, water, shelter) • Learned how to make and use fire • Lived in clans • Developed oral language • Created “cave art” (Rememeber Lascaux, France!!)

11. Paleolithic Period Cont… Was the world different in the Old Stone Age from our modern world? The answer is yes. The earth's climate was very different. The world was a much colder place to live on than our modern world. Wild herds of animals roamed the land in search of food, which was scarce at that time. In order for Stone Age people to survive, they had to move with these herds of animals.

Neolithic Period- the beginning of agriculture, including permanent settlements, was a major step in the advance of civilization. • Developed agriculture (domesticated plants) • Domesticated animals • Used advanced tools • Made pottery • Developed weaving skills archaeologists continue to find and interpret evidence of early humans and their lives. archaeologists study past cultures by locating and analyzing human remains, settlements, fossils, and artifacts. Explain that archaeologists apply scientific tests, such as carbon dating, to analyze fossils and artifacts.

13. Stonehenge is an example of an archaeological site in England that was begun during the Neolithic Age and completed during the Bronze Age. Aleppo and Jericho as examples of early cities in the Fertile Crescent studied by archeologists. Çatalhöyük as an example of a Neolithic settlement currently under excavation in Anatolia.
