1 Electricity Review

2 Draw a circuit diagram of 2 cells in parallel and 1 light bulb and 1 motor in parallel.
Add switches so that the light bulb and motor can be turned on and off one at a time. Add an ammeter to measure the current going through the motor. Add a voltmeter to measure the voltage drop at the light bulb. Add arrows to show direction of current flow.

3 Give the symbols and units for:
Current Voltage Resistance Draw the equation triangle for Ohm’s Law

4 Voltmeter or Ammeter? Connected in parallel around a source or load.
Connected in series as part of the path. Measures energy gained by electrons at the source. Measures the rate of flow of electrons. Measures the energy lost by electrons at the load.

5 Ohm’s Law Problem – Use GUESS
Calculate the current in a circuit if the voltage is 9V and the resistance is 20Ω.

6 Short Circuit What is missing in a short circuit?
What happens to the current in a short circuit? Why is it dangerous?

7 Series Circuit How many paths are there for current to flow in a series circuit? Is voltage shared between loads? Does current change throughout circuit, or does it stay the same? If one bulb burns out, what happens to the other bulb? If more bulbs are added, how does the current change?

8 Parallel Circuit How many paths are there for current to flow in a parallel circuit? Is voltage shared between loads? Does current change throughout circuit, or does it stay the same? If one bulb burns out, what happens to the other bulb? If more bulbs are added, how does the current at the source change?
