5 Parts of the Supervision Model
Goal setting Selection of a supervision mode (after tenure is attained) Classroom observations for professional growth Non-tenured teachers As an option for tenured teachers Once every four years for tenured teachers As needed to support teachers’ professional growth Walk throughs Our supervision model includes these four parts.

6 Change #2 Goal Setting

7 Teachers set SMART goals, directly related to student achievement, and related to one of the district or building level goals. Strategic and specific Measurable Attainable Results-oriented Time-bound We did not make any changes to the goal setting process. This is the wording that is in our current plan. Teachers also set professional development goals which may be individual goals or collaborative goals.

9 Modes of Supervision Self-directed development Teacher Portfolio
Digital Video Reflection Action Research Peer Collaboration Professional Study Group Peer Coaching One of our subcommittees worked on developing the modes of supervision from which teachers could choose. They divided them into those that would be self-directed and those that are done with one or more peers.

10 Self Directed Development
Teacher Portfolio Allows teachers the opportunity to reflect and gather data to support their professional goals, assess teaching strengths, and identify areas which may need improvement. Video Reflection Allows teachers the opportunity to video their lessons to refine instructional practices over time in an identified area. Action Research Helps teachers answer questions about the effectiveness of specific instructional strategies, the performance of specific students, and classroom management techniques.

11 Peer Collaboration Professional Study Group
Provides colleagues the chance to identify an area of focus to be critically analyzed through professional conversations Peer Coaching Allows teachers opportunities to consult with one another, to discuss and share teaching practices, to observe one another's classrooms and routines, and to promote collegiality and support. New Teacher Mentoring Provides the opportunity for experienced teachers to mentor new professionals and grow as professionals themselves through reflection on the mentoring process. 13 What about walk throughs?
Purpose of the Walk-Through To stimulate collegial conversation about learning and teaching. To promote the use and sharing of best instructional practices. To provide ongoing feedback that fosters continuous growth. To provide higher visibility of administrators with students and teachers. To help administrators have a better understanding of instructional practices being used throughout the school.
