3 Why follow the order of operations?
Without an order of operation, an expression might have different values. This helps us to accept the universal interpretation, otherwise there would be chaos.

6 What is the distributive property?
We use this property when we have to evaluate expressions that have a number multiplying a sum or a difference. For example: 3(5+9) You distribute the factor at the beginning of the expression into each term inside the parentheses. Or: 9(11.1)

7 Practice problem You want to buy 3 cans of soup at $0.89 each and 2 boxes of crackers at $1.59 each. What is the total cost? 3 (0.89) + 2 (1.59) Because of PEMA, you must multiply before adding. Answer: $5.85
