1 Water Pollution By Haille Joseph Form 1 m

2 Introduction I chose water pollution because of this year‘s water restrictions and I thought that it would be fun and interesting to tie in actual events that affect Trinidad in one way or another. My main resource in WATER and in this project I plan to inform the people about how we pollute water, the MAJOR effects that will happen to ‘man’ if we continue and what water can and does for us ,just to name a few.

3 What is water? What does it do for us?
Water is the most precious natural resource on the planet without it life on Earth would be no more. Water is also a renewable resource, one of Trinidad and Tobago’s biggest resource with us being an island and surrounded by it. Water is used to; quench our thirsts, water our plants, wash our clothes, a form of recreation and it provides a home for many of our other marine-life resources.

4 Pollution of water. Water pollution is the introduction of impurities into our water supply, (lakes, rivers, seas) which affects animal and aquatic life and the quality of the water. Water is polluted in many ways such as; oil spills, solid waste, acid rain .sewerage, industrial waste from factories, fertilizers and pesticides and house hold garbage. Think about this if we did not pollute water ,maybe during the dry season this year when we had little rain and many restrictions we could have had some extra water in our reservoirs . W. A. S .A works extremely hard to make our polluted water drinkable and it is a very costly process ,so let us help out by not polluting.

5 Effects of pollution Oil spills makes it harder for birds to fly once it gets in their feathers and drown if it is too heavy for their bodies. Acid rain increases the level of acidity in the water poisoning the fishes and making the water acid. Household items such as plastic bags, suffocate the animals, they get cuts and some die from being tangled in them and others from swallowing them. Exhaust from boats cover corals and suffocate them leaving them white “bleached corals”. Drains clogged up by bottles can cause floods .Polluted water is highly undrinkable, if you drink it you may get diseases and if pollution gets out of hand all our beaches would be contaminated and one of our favourite places to “cool off”(the beach)would be no longer fun or safe.

6 Further effects of pollution
It is wrong to pollute water. Water is the only thing that we need to keep us alive therefore by contaminating the water our water supply will soon be at a dangerously low level. To marine life water is like air, without it they die, numerous amounts of people depend on seafood as their main source of protein. Pollution of water ->Killing of sea life->death of a lot of people, and what happened when our other sources of protein runs out as well? When you pollute water you are contributing to the end of life on Earth.

7 Ways to prevent WATER pollution
DISPOSE OF GARBAGE PROPERLY —WALK WITH PLASTIC BAGS OR KEEP UNTILL YOU FIND A BIN COMPAIES SHOULD HAVE A BIN OR CONTAINER TO CAPTURE THEIR WASTE PRODUCTS. DO NOT OVER USE FERTILIZERS OR PESTICIDES. BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOUTHROW DOWN YOUR DRAINS. CONSERVE THE AMOUNT OF WATER WE HAVE SO THAT WE DO NOT HAVE TO USE AS MUCH OF THE TREATED CONTAMINATED WATER PASS STRICTER LAWS ON WATER POLLUTION AS WELL AS ARES ANY WHERE CLOSE TO A WATER SOURCE WITH LARGER FINES. HAVE REGULAR CLEAN UP DAYS.
