2 What is Nationalism? Nationalism is strong pride and patriotism in one country. Feeling of superiority over other countries

3 What caused communist revolutions in Russia?
Czar Nicholas the II run out of power by Bolshevik group, run by vladimir lenin Rejection of the former Czarist system People were told to put the state before themselves Unequal wealth between social classes causing class warfare Bolsheviks preached “peace, land, bread” as the slogan to get people excited about communism Heavy military losses in WWI food and fuel shortages and Czar opposition led to Russian Revolution

4 M.A.I.N Causes of WWI M-militarism= building up armaments in preparation of war, major cause of war A-Alliances= triple entente, central powers I-Imperialism= super power countries trying to claim colonies N-Nationalism= patriotic pride in one nation, feel superior to other nations, balkan area nationalism became powder keg that ignited WWI resisting Austrian Rule Archduke Frans Ferdinand Assasination is the immediate cause of WWI

5 Causes of WWI cont’d Balkan area (SouthEast Europe) of Europe is splitting due to nationalistic agendas Alliances made between other countries worries other nations causing them to make alliances Colonies sick of imperialism and want independence Countries are proud of militaries and want to show them off

6 Woodrow Wilson 14 pts The "Fourteen Points" was a statement given on the 8th of January, 1918 by United States President Woodrow Wilson declaring that World War I was being fought for a moral cause and calling for postwar peace in Europe. It also caused many colonies in Asia and Africa to seek self determination, or independence from their imperial opressors

7 League of Nations Organization put into place after war to promote peaceful relations world wide Created Mandate System to keep an eye on colonies in the middle east Alliance of countries to keep an eye on the rest of the world Its formation could have caused WWII

8 Results of WWI Treaty of Versailles ends war
League of nations Punishment of germany Forced to give up colonies in africa/ asia and pay reparations Potentially causes WWII with harsh penalties of Germany Many new countries form: Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia, etc.
