1 Warm Up: Find the angle measurement for the labeled reference angle to the nearest degree. The reference angle is labeled with Theta. 9 ft. 17 cm 8 cm 40 ft.

2 When he designed the garden, he knew the following information:
John is building his dream garden. His property is in the shape of a right triangle. However, John needs to know the exact lengths of all sides his garden will make so that he doesn’t go over his property limits. When he designed the garden, he knew the following information: m < C = 90 degrees m < A = 60 degrees m < B = 30 degrees Side a = 60 ft. A C B

3 Find the length of side c to the nearest foot.
60 ft. B Choose your reference angle, unless it is given to you. Create your ratio, using “x” as the missing side. Solve for x (use the calculator)

4 Using the Pythagorean Theorem, find the length of side b to the nearest foot. Then, check your answer using trigonometry. A C 60 ft. B

5 Finding a missing side of a right triangle when knowing an acute angle and another side
Label the picture with the information you know Determine the trig function you need to use, based on your reference angle and the side that is missing Set up a proportion using your trig ratio Solve for x using the calculator (make sure it is in degree mode)

6

7 Find the value of x to the nearest tenth of an inch.

8 Practice: Math A pg. 822 # 1 – 8 If you finish, practice more with finding the missing angle: Math A pg. 822 # 9 – 12 Challenge: Word Problems Pg. 825 # 9 – 23 (choose any)
