1 French and Indian War After the war, British government imposed taxes such as the Stamp Act and Townshend acts. It was NOT a war between the French and the Indians!!!

2 Albany Plan of Union Benjamin Franklin’s first attempt to bring the colonies together for defense.

3 The British government realized that it would be difficult to protect the Western lands. They issued the Proclamation of 1763 which said that colonists could not settle west of the Appalachian Mountains.

4 Taxed sugar, molasses, and other products shipped to the colonies.

5 Quartering Act March 24, 1765 Colonists were required to feed and house British Soldiers.

6 Stamp Act Requires all paper items, such as wills, marriage licenses, and playing cards to carry a stamp that proves the tax was paid.

7 Townshend Acts A tax on tea, glass, oil, paint, and lead sold in the 13 Colonies Sons of Liberty organized protests and boycotts (refusal to buy) British goods.

8 Boston Massacre A deadly riot which resulted in 5 colonists being killed by British Soldiers. It was used as Propaganda to encourage colonist to take a stand.

9 Tea Act: Taxes on tea and could only buy from British
East India Company. Boston Tea Party: The Sons of Liberty destroy 342 chests of tea to show they were mad about not having representation.

10 Intolerable Acts 1774 -Created as pay back to Boston, Mass for their act of civil disobedience. -Closed the port of Boston, which stopped trade -Did not allow town meetings.
