Thermal Infrared Multispectral Scanner (TIMS): Remote Sensing Techniques and Geologic Applications Part I By Carmen Parks Mentor: Lela Prashad

2 What is Remote Sensing? involves gathering data and information about the physical "world" by detecting and measuring signals composed of: radiation particles fields emanating from objects located beyond the immediate vicinity of the sensor

3 Thermal Infrared Multispectral Scanner (TIMS)
Thermal Remote Sensor operates using the thermal range of the electromagnetic spectrum supports NASA’s Airborne Science and Applications Program and is utilized to map geological features in Arizona

4

5 TIMS The Device is flown over desired land locations in an airplane or helicopter It senses the energy emitted from the Earth’s surface The files provide information such as surface temperature and emissivity

6

7

8 Electromagnetic Spectra
The data is collected using five distinctive electromagnetic wavelength ranges. Software is then used for processing and analyzing the TIMS imagery, producing composition and surface temperature images

9

10 TIMS The images are eventually placed into their correct latitude and longitude locations on earth by geo-referencing.

11 Thank you Any Questions?
