Ate, slept, & dreamed about military
Built Prussia into a European power
Led nation to become self-sufficient
1740 = Prussia has 4th largest army in EU

4. Frederick the Great Frederick II Expanded Prussia 1756 = 7 Years War
Started War of the Austrian Succession
Gained Silesia
1756 = 7 Years War
Aftermath = All European countries were in war debt
Finally peace

5. Unification of Germany
Junkers (political group) of Prussia oppose trade tariffs est. by Congress of Vienna
Prussian King abolishes tariffs within Prussian territories
Zollverein est. (customs union)

7. Unification Continued…
1848 marks a series European/Prussian revolutions
Prussian king says Germany will unite
1862 = Otto von Bismarck becomes head of Prussian cabinet

8. Bismarck’s Accomplishment
Had to take Austria out of power
Provoked Austria into a war and Prussia won in 7 weeks (7 Week’s War)
Wages war on France and urges all German states to unite and conquer
Franco-Prussian War
Germany unites
