2 Quick Fact About Data Program vs. Cohort Data Program Cohort
Measures the effectiveness of programs 1. Represents monitoring over multiple years. one group over time. Focuses on the same grade level over multiple years, not the same students. This is the type of data displayed on the State of the Schools Report.

3 Quick Fact About Data Big Picture Includes:
Criterion Referenced Test & Classroom-based Assessments (State Standards Info) *Teacher Developed *Measures Local Curriculum *Reflects Classroom Instruction Norm-Referenced Test (Terra Nova) *Developed by a testing company *Compares student performance to other student performance *Does not always measure local curriculum & instruction Statewide Writing Assessment *Developed by Nebraska educators *Scored by the state

4 Quick Facts About Data Next Step is to break data down even further
Look at : *Demographic Information: SPED ELL Free/Reduced Mobility Gender Ethnicity *Enrollment/Attendance/Behavior Data *Perceptual Data (surveys of students, community, climate)

5 So What is Our Point Today?
We are going to look at WCS “big picture”. “De-emotionalize” the data! Analyze Data – What does it tell us? - Use Data Analysis Worksheet to make educational decisions Build ownership across the system for how our kids are performing. Determine if our school improvement goals are appropriate.

24 Data Analysis Worksheet
Title of Our Data: _______________________________ What does the data tell us? (Factual Information) 1. 2. 3. What are some possible reasons why? (Hypotheses) Are the results a strength or a concern? _______________ What can/should we do about it? (Next Steps)

25 WCS School Improvement Plan “The Improvement of Reading”
School Improvement Agenda Reading Strategies/Learning Communities Program/Perception Surveys Disaggregate data into demographic sub-groups Determine intervention groups Write action plans Review action plans with external chair & team members (prior to implementation) Review strengths/weaknesses of implemented action plans with staff Modify action plans as needed Celebrate!
