IMPROV LESSON 6

CHARACTERS From the moment a character walks on stage, it should be clear who they are. Characters can be portrayed using: Dialogue (what characters say) Emotion (how characters say it) Mannerisms (body language) Actions (what the character does)

Character Walks Walk around the room like we did for the location activity. Mrs. Macomber will call out a character trait and you will take on that characteristic. Use dialogue, emotion, mannerisms and actions to show this.

Animal Scenes Get into groups of 3-4.
Each group will draw a different animal from the box. While remaining human, you will take on characteristics of that animal. Ex. If you drew “chihuahua” from the box, you would run around the room in a hyper fashion. You would not bark but would speak quickly! Remember to remain human!

Famous Characters You are each going to draw a famous character out of the box. One at a time, you are going to come in front of the class and become that character. Remember to use dialogue, emotion, mannerisms, and actions. The class will attempt to guess your character. You are not allowed to say your character’s name!

Journal 6 What element of characterization (dialogue, emotion, mannerisms, or actions) really makes a character come to life? Explain your thoughts.
