1 Paragraph Editing Checklist

2 T.S. = has Topic + Main Idea
Support is concrete, accurate, and effective (avoid absolutes like always, never, everybody) Verb Tense - identify your verbs. Are they the same tense? (aim for present tense whenever possible) Voice - change 2nd person pronouns to 3rd or 1st person (you, we, our, us, your) SF/RO - make sure you have full sentences but have not joined multiple sentences together with a comma. Capitalization - i = I, beginning of sentences Sentence variety/transition words Word choice/vocabulary = is it sophisticated and precise? C.S. = do you wrap up your idea?

3 Introduction Checklist
Has an Attention Grabber, Elaboration, 3 main ideas, and a thesis. Refer to previous slide for grammatical and mechanical editing suggestions.

4 Conclusion Checklist Has a transitional sentence – leading out of the body paragraphs and into the summary. Summarizes the three main ideas of the essay but does not in the same words previously used. Refer to slide 2 for grammatical and mechanical editing.
