2 Fig 1 Long-term survival after cloth-covered Starr-Edwards ball valve implantation in the mitral and aortic position. Numbers in the lower part indicate the number of surviving patients at the time. ○ = mitral valve; ▵ = aortic valve. Numbers in the lower part indicate the number of patients at the time. ○ = mitral valve; ▵ = aortic valve. 5 Fig 4 Freedom from all valve-related complications after cloth-covered Starr-Edwards ball valve implantation in the mitral and aortic position. Numbers in the lower part indicate the number of patients at the time. ○ = mitral valve; ▵ = aortic valve. 6 Fig 5 Excised 34.2-year-old mitral valve (model 6310). Significant cloth wear and dislodgement were observed inside the struts and the orifice, showing bare metal struts and metal orifice. Pannus overgrowth was observed behind the struts and over the studs at the strut orifice. The stellite ball could not contact the studs around the orifice.
