SL , SL9-10.5 Monday, March 25th, 2019 Aim: How can we compare and contrast the film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet (1996) to Shakespeare’s original text? Objective: Students will be analyzing the choices the director made and comparing them to the choices that Shakespeare employed in his writing. Do Now: Answer one of the following questions. 1.) How can watching a movie adaptation of a literary work enhance the understanding of the text? OR 2.) What notable differences from the text do you remember from the first viewing of the movie? How do they affect the story?

Objective: Students will be analyzing the choices the director made and comparing them to the choices that Shakespeare employed in his writing. Agenda 1.) Do Now: Answer one or both questions, turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will prepare to share with the class. 2.) Mini-Lesson: Together we will watch the 1996 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet and comparing it to Shakespeare’s text. Looking at both will help us better understand the play. 4.) Reflection: How does watching a modern interpretation with extravagant parties, modern cars, guns, and drugs affect your understanding of a play written hundreds of years ago? Does it still retain its original themes and feelings? DUE ON TUESDAY - FIRST ENTRY OF THE CHARACTER JOURNALS/DIARIES From the perspective of one of the main characters (Romeo, Juliet, Tybalt, Lord Capulet/Montague, Lady Capulet/Montague, Paris, Benvolio, Mercutio, or the Nurse)
