1 The Basic functionality and applications of the project
I used to have this dream of a "computerized home" where a benevolent computer, on a piece of plywood on the wall in the basement somewhere, would oversee the lights and heating, turn on radio or TV when interesting shows come on, make voice announcements of important reminders and so on. I would be able to control this wondrous machine with a remote control from anywhere in the house, or call it up on the telephone, or push buttons on a locally wired keypad. Imagine having the ability to call home while on the road, and by issuing simple commands, control devices inside of the home, such as lights, security systems, and air conditioners, as well as perform household tasks like vacuuming, picking up the mail, or just about anything.

2 Basic functionality of the project
I will talk today about the basic function of our project and demonstrate how the main devices interact with each other.

3 Basic functionality of the project

I will talk today about the basic function of our project and demonstrate how the main devices interact with each other. On the next slides you will see the interaction of: The ring-in detection circuit The Altera Max processor The Cermetek on/off hook chip The DTMF decoder

8 Basic functionality of the project
Ring in detection circuit

9 Basic functionality of the project
Ring in detection circuit Analog phone connection

10 Basic functionality of the project
Ring in detection circuit The ring-in detection circuit captures ring pulses Analog phone connection

11 Basic functionality of the project
Ring in detection circuit Ring pulses are then counted by the microprocessor (using frequency division) The ring-in detection circuit captures ring pulses Analog phone connection

12 Basic functionality of the project
When the microprocessor has finished counting about 3 rings,

13 Basic functionality of the project
When the microprocessor has finished counting about 3 rings, A signal is sent to the On/Off hook chip to electrically change the impedance on the line,
