1 WATER ROCKET EVALUATION LESSON AND NOTES
Matter - Material - stuff Measure Transportation Technology Mass Weight Gravity Force Pressure Thrust Propel Accelerate Balance Diameter Circumference Aerodynamic Drag Different/Better Mass x Gravity Attraction - pull Push - Pull Change Move Quick – Sudden Burst Increase, Decrease speed or Direction Change Straight – Steady Stable Force / Area Make move Widest - Center Around - Perimeter Shape – Cuts Slices Air Friction/Resistance Rubbing - Slows CRAZY TO NOT TAKE DOWN WHAT’S IN RED!!

2 1. Explain what might happen if a rocket had only TWO fins?
(Balance --- Drag) 2. Describe/explain the CHANGES you could make to improve upon your launch results? Pointy Nosecone – Seltzer/Soda – Increase Pressure – Modify Fins - Adjust Mass 3. LIST Newton’s three laws of Motion! (See bulletin board poster) 4. WHAT are at least four CHARACTERISTICS/FEATURES that would lead to any object moving well? Balance – Low Mass – Aerodynamic – Greater Force/Pressure/Thrust 5. WHAT are the two PURPOSES of the Ping-Pong ball? Up = Aerodynamics Down = Parachute/Drag

3 Water down/out slow = Rocket Up Slow
6. Explain why/how a LIGHTER rocket should be more successful than a HEAVIER one? Less Mass & Same Pressure = Greater Acceleration/Propulsion 7. Explain what would occur if only 75lbs. of pressure were pumped into the soda bottle. (Think 2nd Law of Motion) Less Pressure = Less Force/Thrust = Less Acceleration/Propulsion 8. Explain what would occur if the soda bottle were filled with water, instead of using only one cup of water. (Think 3rd Law of Motion) Water down/out slow = Rocket Up Slow
