5 Focus on Health Opinion Corners
You will be shown a series of statements relating to health. For each statement, think about whether you agree or disagree. You must have reasons which back up your opinion.

6 Poorer people are more likely to make bad lifestyle choices.
If a person has bad health it is their fault for making bad lifestyle choices. The Government’s role is just to inform people about smoking and the risks, it’s up to the individual to act upon this advice. Poorer people are more likely to make bad lifestyle choices. This should encourage debate around lifestyle choices vs lifestyle chances

7 Health Inequalities There is lots of evidence to show that some groups of people are more likely to enjoy better health and have longer life expectancy than others i.e. everyone’s health is not equal. There are lots of reasons for this.

The Caci Report- made all the headlines. Took a variety of statistics and confirmed the shockingly unhealthy lifestyles of a significant number of Scots. Herald newspaper summed the findings of the report - ‘Scotland the sick man of the UK with 22 of the top 25 illness areas. Emphasised the geographical divide with poverty being the main cause.

Facilities available: Fewer shops in poorer areas selling healthy foods. Less sports and leisure facilities. Crime: Higher chance of juvenile delinquency and anti-social behaviour as well as general crime…link to alcohol and drugs To highlight issues with environment you can show the poor kids clips- you will find these in the s3 folder.
