Community cohesion incorporates and goes beyond the concept of race equality and social inclusion. A cohesive community is one where: there is a common vision and a sense of belonging for all communities the diversity of people’s different backgrounds and circumstances are appreciated and positively valued those from different backgrounds have similar life opportunities and strong and positive relationships are being developed between people from different backgrounds in the workplace, in schools and within neighbourhoods. Community facilitation and conflict resolution are ways of developing a more cohesive community. (Factsheet No 15: Community Cohesion and Neighbourhood Renewal)

In pairs, discuss How to engage with deprived/disadvantaged communities – with the aim to identify and recruit potential coaches Draw the profile of a coach from a deprived/disadvantaged community What additional support will they require? Now compare this with your current coach profile Feedback to the rest of the group

16 Key Performance Indicators
Essential to be realistic when setting your output indicators Remember that outcomes are not so easy to measure, but can be extremely powerful Limit the number of indicators to collect only relevant information be realistic about time and resources Make the indicators useable do they actually measure what you need to show funders? are they easy to measure?

Must have… Mixed blessings… Acceptance of the existence of constant issues and barriers. Adequate knowledge and experience of the coach industry. Patience, time, the ability to nurture low confident individuals leadership and or coaching experience Past sport experience (positive or negative) Support from the organisation Nice to have… Major barriers… Additional financial resources to enable consistent support to be provided. An individual mentor for each new coach Past failures and frustrations Low levels of skill and capability Lack of experience and understanding from NGB’s Tutors Transport Trust
