2. What processes are involved in the water cycle?
The process of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation make up the water cycle
Evaporation – the process by which molecules of liquid water absorb energy and change to a gas
Condensation – the process by which a gas changes to a liquid
Precipitation – the process by which condensed water falls to earth

3. How are the carbon and oxygen cycles related?
Most producers take in carbon dioxide from the air during photosynthesis
They use it to make sugars and starches
When consumers eat the producers, they take in these carbon molecules for energy
Then the release carbon dioxide back into the environment
The process by which carbon and oxygen are recycled are linked.

4. Producers release oxygen as a result of photosynthesis
Most other organisms take in oxygen from the air and use it for cellular respiration

5. How does nitrogen cycle through ecosystems?
Most organisms can only use nitrogen after it has been “fixed,” or combined with other elements to form nitrogen containing compounds
There are nitrogen “fixing” bacteria in soil, in the roots of legumes
In the nitrogen cycle, nitrogen moves from the air, into the soil, then into living things, then back into the air or soil

6. Return of nitrogen into the environment
Once nitrogen is fixed, producers can use it to build proteins and complex compounds
At some point, bacteria break down the nitrogen compounds completely
These bacteria then release it back into the atmosphere again

It is the only other known way nitrogen is fixed
