1 The Christian, the Government, and Homosexuality
Romans 13:1-7

2 Our relationship with the government
We are to be subject to government because it has been instituted by God (Romans 13:1) We are to be subject to the government for a good conscience (Romans 13:3-5) We are to “pay tax to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.” (Romans 13:7)

3 God’s relationship with the government
The governments that exist, exist because of God (Romans 13:1) He builds nations up and tears them down (Job 12:23; Daniel 2:21) God will judges the nations who do not know him Assyria (Isaiah 10:12-14) The wrath of God is revealed…against ungodliness (Romans 1:18) God’s law supersedes the government (Acts 5:29)

4 God is a God of design From the beginning, God has established design
Creation (Genesis 1-2) Patriarchal (Genesis 4:4-5; 6:15-17) Mosaic (Hebrews 8:5) Christian (Philippians 3:17)

5 God is a God of design From the beginning, God has established design
In his design, God has established that a relationship is for a man and a woman God knew that man needed a helper fit for him (2:18) Woman was created as being a fit helper (2:23) The marriage relationship was established between a man and his wife (2:24; Matthew 19:3-9)

6 Do we need to look at ourselves first?
“Allowing same-sex couples to marry apparently poses a ‘threat’ to ‘traditional marriage’ as though somehow heterosexual married couples will be at risk of divorcing when two people of the same sex marry each other. If those who use the ‘sanctity’ argument were genuinely concerned about the institution of marriage they’d focus their efforts on helping those straight married couples who are at risk of divorcing.” (HuffPost, Marray Lipp)

12 How are we to approach homosexuality?
With grace (Colossians 4:5-6) With love (Matthew 5:43-48) We must realize that we are saved from the same state All have sinned (1 John 1:8-10; Romans 3:23) Like homosexuality, lying is an abomination to God (Proverbs 12:22)
