Must be school appropriate! FIRST min. NEXT- 5 min. On a sheet of paper, describe your summer in a complete sentence using only six words. Be prepared to share with a partner!  Trade papers with someone sitting close to you. Comment on your partners six word story using only six words.

10 Outside Reading: Metacognitive Reading Journal
FACTS: You will complete ONE per unit (6 total by May). Each MRJ will be assigned at the start of each unit. Each MRJ will count as a PBA. ALL 6 MRJ’S SHOULD BE DEDICATED TO ONE COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK (no exceptions). 5. The rubric will remain the same for each unit; all that changes is the strategies you choose to focus on for each specific unit. 6. All MRJ’s will be completed outside of class (you MAY get some class time periodically to work on it, so please bring it to class every day).

11 Metacognitive Reading Journal Requirements
That you include this rubric at the start of each unit (page #1 of unit). That you include a table of contents at the start of each unit (page #2 of unit). That you pick four of the nine strategies below to focus on each unit. That you fill in the rubric accordingly (one strategy per row below; all points will remain the same). That you set and track an attainable reading goal (see more info on rubric). That you take it seriously. That you actually read the text. That you respond to the reading in a thoughtful and concise manner. That you staple/tape/glue all complimentary texts within your composition notebook.

PROJECT DIRECTIONS IN ORDER TO RECEIVE CREDIT Introduce yourself to the class! No more than 7 slides; no less than 5. No more than 10 words per slide. No more than 5 pictures per slide; no less than 3. Cannot use a picture more than once. Must be creative & entertaining!  QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:   What does your name mean? (i.e. family name? named after someone famous? Story behind your name? etc.)  What is something you're passionate about? 14 Time Capsule: 15 min. On a sheet of paper, write a 3 paragraph letter to yourself detailing the following: What are your expectations of yourself this year? What do you hope to accomplish (academically, socially, athletically, etc.)? What do you wish to improve upon (in ELA, with your friends, with your family, with your study habits, etc.)? What do you hope to learn this year in this class?
