1 Shape and Form

2 Shape is made by connecting lines,
The flat outline of an object. *Shape is 2-Dimensional.

3 *Form is three-dimensional
Form occurs when something takes up space. Something that is three-dimensional, enclosing space . Like a basketball. *Form is three-dimensional

4 Shape vs. Form

5 There are 3 types of shapes:
RECTANGULAR FORMS: most commonly used in our homes. These include squares, rectangles, and cubes. Most rooms follow this form because: The danger is that we use them to much and it can become boring. It is not visually interesting if everything is 90 degree angles. You must use a variety of shapes and forms in design to add interest in the space. Examples: Refrigerators, beds, pillows, dishwashers, rugs, windows and doors.

6 ANGULAR FORMS: Include triangles and
pyramids. They are used in modern homes with vaulted ceilings, and in stair cases. -This is the strongest shape. -They suggest motion, attract and hold attention. Examples: Most sloping roofs, angled walls, window treatments, lamp shades, Christmas trees, and accessories.

7 Circles and spheres have unique qualities.
CURVED FORMS: Bring to mind things found in nature. There are curved forms in nature all the time such as trees, flowers, rocks, hills and clouds. Circles and spheres have unique qualities. a. A sense of femininity. b. Remind us of motion. c. Provide great variety. Examples: Plates bowls, lamp shades, pillows, tables, chairs, stools, etc.
