The SDMX Global Conference 2009
Major event, emphasis moves from creation of the standards and guidelines to their implementation
The SDMX Content-oriented Guidelines
SDMX COG, version 2009, were released which is much more comprehensive and solid
Additional activities of the SDMX Sponsors and SDMX Secretariat
SDMX capacity building, SDMX website, liaison to the international standard groups (such as ISO), internal SDMX organisation

3. SDMX within the European Statistical System
Progress on SDMX IT tools
SDMX registry, Data Structure Wizard, SDMX converter, Business Cycle Clock, X-DIS visualisation tool, etc. → all available as “open source”
IT tools for reference metadata
National Reference Metadata Editor, SDMX Metadata template
Harmonisation of structural and reference metadata
Increasing production and use of harmonised structural metadata (concepts and code lists) within SDMX and the ESS;
The Euro-SDMX Metadata Structure was recommended to the ESS; it will be successively implemented.

4. SDMX within the European Statistical System
SDMX within the Eurostat CVD
Single Entry Point, CVD Metadata Handler (more details later), and Eurobase as new Eurostat reference database will be made SDMX-compliant, SDMX-ML files will be disseminated on the Eurostat webpage (via bulk download)
Training and other capacity building actions
Standard SDMX training program continued, modular SDMX self-learning package will be available soon, continuation of technical workshops and meetings at different levels

5. SDMX within the European Statistical System
SDMX implementation in statistical domains: standard actions:
Create Data Structure Definitions (DSDs) based on the respective data sets or on elder DSDs (e.g. in GESMES)
Apply harmonised code lists in the newly created DSDs
Apply the Euro-SDMX Metadata Structure (ESMS) for the Eurostat and national reference metadata in using the appropriate metadata structure definition
Adapt the Eurostat or national IT production systems
Upcoming: adapt the Eurostat and national quality reports to the upcoming European Standard Quality Reports (ESQR)

6. SDMX within the European Statistical System
SDMX implementation in statistical domains:
Overview on SDMX implementation actions in statistical domains in the annex to the document
Additional statistical domains were tackled such as labour market statistics or structural business statistics
These were selected on the basis of certain criteria such as the stability of the respective data sets
But the SDMX implementation does not progress very fast (exception: the use of the ESMS within Eurostat). Acceleration is supported by the Eurostat management.
