It is a tool that makes work easier to do.
It changes the size or direction of a force.
This is an example of an inclined plane. It makes it easier to move items up and down.

You can use it as a wedge to lift or pry something open.
We use a wedge to keep open the door.

A pulley is a simple machine.
In the olden days, pulleys were used to get water out of a well.

Did you know that this is also a simple machine? It’s called a wheel and axle!

It holds things together, like parts of a table leg.
