2 Essential Question What makes some people resist and others obey authority?

3 Terms to think about Stereotypes – a widely held, but oversimplified image of a particular group of people or thing. Example: French people are good cooks. All Asian people are smart. Lets discuss some stereotypes found: In this town In this school

4 Terms cont’d Scapegoat – a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings or mistakes of others. Example: a coach in pro sports who is fired because the team does not win. Lets discuss this idea: Why do scapegoats exist in our society?

5 Stereotypes and Prejudice
Elbow Partner– Have you ever taken out your frustrations or anger on an innocent person? Describe the situation, why it happened and how you felt afterwards. OR Have you even been blamed unjustly by a friend, parent, teacher or coach? Describe the situation, why you think it happened and how you felt afterwards.

6 Prejudice Prejudice – any preconceived idea or feeling, formed beforehand without any knowledge, thought or reason. (Usually referred to as an unfavourable opinion. )

10 The Nazi Attack on German Jews
Read the article. With your elbow partner - answer the questions on lined paper. (Both partners need to write the responses for their notes.)
