Turn in Contracts APRIL 18, 2017 1. Grab the lap top you’ve been using 2. On your own paper, begin writing the first draft of your research paper-it must include parenthetical citations (see notes on plagiarizing vs paraphrasing)-see slides 7-10 3. I must see at least the next 2 paragraphs completed. I will initial and date today-participation grade for today.

2. Outlook Handbook-CT Counselor’s Links 3. Book, Library Databases, credible journals, articles, etc (you will need 2)-Use Library Webpage to help navigate to get the info you need. 4. Your source cards will be turned in to turnitin.com by 11:59pm (change it on your checklist).

3 To do list: Step 1: Find a GOOD source from OPAC, Mackinvia, or the Texquest resources (academic one file, General One File, Research in context, and Student Resources). Note: This is DIFFICULT. You may not find something right away. This is part of the struggle regarding research writing. Keep digging. Do advanced searches. Step 2: Once you have selected a source with good information, open up your source card document in google drive. Begin filling out Source Card #1 the top of the card and copy and paste the MLA citation from your source. If using an ebook, click the red book in the top corner and select MLA 8. If using one of the other databases, click on the article, click on citation tools in the right corner, and select MLA 8. Step 3: Examine your outline and start searching for information in your selected source that is relevant to that outline. Note: Your source card is a note taking tool. Type in relevant information that you can later use to write your research paper.

Below you will find a recommended thesis “formula” that is appropriate for this research project. Do not remove the words that are in bold; simply insert your own words to the _______ lines, as instructed by the guidelines in parenthesis. Take the outline and begin writing out your research paper using each roman numeral as a paragraph. Make sure you are citing your information properly. The focus of this research paper is a career in/as a _______________________ because of its (choose & insert an adjective to describe its career overview) ___________________ career overview (or “job outlook”), (choose & insert an adjective to describe its salary) ___________________ salary, and because of its (choose & insert an adjective to describe its training) ____________________ education (or “training”).

7 Parenthetical Citations
Parenthetical citation for an article with no author: (“Altitude Illness” 21) It is more likely to experience altitude sickness in the Everest region than anywhere else (Leshem). Parenthetical citation for a book with an author: (Last name pg #) (Krakauer 140).

Parenthetical Citations When citing a source with no page number: Altitude physiologist Rob Roach notes that “Everest is climbable over time” (Klesius).

9 Parenthetical Citations
When introducing an author in the actual sentence, only a page number is necessary in the parenthetical citation. In Jon Krakauer’s book Intro Thin Air, he recounts the story of Dale Kruse, a climber afflicted with altitude sickness. Kruse describes himself as feeling very drunk and totally incapable of walking (140).
