Volcanoes The fire from within

What is a volcano? A volcano is an opening in the Earth, often in the form of mountain vents, holes, and craters. When the volcano erupts, lava, ash, cinders, dust, and hot gas can pour out the top. The average temperature of lava is degrees Farenheit.

What Causes a Volcano? The buoyancy and the pressure of the gas within the Earth’s crust cause the volcano to erupt. Magma is formed when the upper mantle of the earth melts. A volcano is erupted when the magma (the hot liquid) rises upwards by the pressure of gas that is dissolved in it.

Effects of a Volcano Harmful gases are released.
Landslides can bury surrounding cities. Ash rains can cover a vast area and cause huge economic losses.
