1 Using the Lathe

2 Safety Using the Lathe Always wear safety glasses.
Do not wear rings, watches or loose clothing. If you have long hair, tie it up and wear a cap. Always ensure piece is fixed securely in the chuck Never leave the Chuck key in the chuck. Keep your face and eyes away from flying chips. Do not lean on the machine. Do not place hands on work turning in the lathe. Do not use callipers or gauges on a workpiece while the workpiece is moving. Do not leave lathe unattended while it is running.

3 Main Parts: Head Stock, Chuck, Saddle, Topslide, Toolpost, Tailstock, Cross Slide, Slideway

4 Setting up the Workpiece in the Lathe
Use the Chuck key to open and tighten the Chuck Place the Workpiece in the Chuck making sure not to have it sticking out to far from the chuck Tighten the chuck making sure Never to leave the Chuck key in the Chuck.

5 Setting Up the Cutting Tool
The cutting tool needs to be adjusted until it is centred on the workpiece. To determine the height the tool piece needs to be you can use the tailstock and centre piece

6 Facing off the workpiece

7 Parallel Turning

8 Taper Turning

9 Drilling

10 Drilling

11 Drilling

12 Parting Off the workpiece
When work is finished on the workpiece it can be parted of using the parting off tool bit.
