Elton Mayo is the founder of the School of Human Relations and is renowned for his numerous researches and the Hawthorne experiments particular in the 1930s, which showed the importance of groups' influence on individual behavior of workers. He tried at first to look at ways to raise productivity through a series of experiments, such as changing conditions in workshops, which allowed him to discover that workers’ productivity was not related to financial and physical factors, but to social factors such as friendship in the workplace and the extent to which workers felt important
